The renovation of the radiotherapy department stagnates in 1948 due to a lack of trained personnel and finances. However, in the following years Henri Lokkerbol manages gradually to realize his plans to modernize and extend the radiotherapy department.

In 1949, the accuracy of irradiation to the head and neck area increases as a result of the implementation of the Beam Direction Fixation method developed in Manchester. The planned entrance and exit beams of the irradiation were marked on the plaster cast. The X-ray applicator and the back pointer are locked to the marked positions. It was now possible to perform more accurate multiple beam irradiation in a fractionated scheme.
