In the hall of the former Roman Catholic church "De Duif" a grand party is organized to say farewell to Harry Bartelink. The party has as a theme an "X-factor" competition, named after a television program in which groups of employees compete for the leadership position which is now available. The result is undecided and opens the opportunity to proclaim Professor Marcel Verheij as the new head of the Radiotherapy Department.
In honour of Harry Bartelink a farewell symposium is organized in the lecture theatre of the NKI. On the picture Harry is the speaker. In the hall many (former) colleagues from inside and outside the Netherlands are present.
The deputy mayor of Amsterdam, de city councillor Eric Wiebes, presents Harry Bartelink with the insignia of his Knighthood of the Order of the Netherlands Lion. Harry dedicates his decoration to all employees of the Radiotherapy Department. The whole Radiotherapy team is entitled to be proud of a decoration given because of proven qualities and many years of commitment to the development of top care in radiotherapy.
At the farewell reception of Harry Bartelink in the Department of Radiotherapy he reveals a luxurious waiting room for very ill patients who have to wait in the department in between the irradiations. In memory of Harry a modern stained glass window has been designed for this room. The artist has based the design on a portrait of Harry Bartelink.
